  31. 1.  VirusScan is now able to decrypt execute-only macros.
  32.     As a result, macro viruses that are distributed in
  33.     source form and recompiled can be detected.

  171. When a macro virus is detected in conjuction with 
  172. other viruses, the macro virus remover will not work. 
  173. If this occurs, remove the other virus first or work
  174. in a separate area.

  177. INSTALLATION
  178.  
  179. * INSTALLING THE PRODUCT *
  180.  
  181. Perform one of the following installation procedures
  182. depending on which version of VirusScan for DOS you
  183. want to install.
  184.  
  185. 1.  For the installable version of VirusScan for DOS,
  186.     take the following steps:
  187.  
  188.     a.  Execute the INSTALL.BAT program.
  189.     b.  Follow the on-screen instructions.
  190.  
  191.     By default, McAfee's installation program makes 
  192.     a directory on the hard disk drive named
  193.     C:\MCAFEE\VIRUSCAN and copies the program files
  194.     to that directory.
  195.  
  196.     The installation script adds the directory
  197.     to the path statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
  198.     and adds two lines that call and recall the
  199.     VShield program to provide on-access virus
  200.     prevention. For the most complete virus protection,
  201.     McAfee recommends using the /ANYACCESS switch.
  202.  
  203.     or  
  204.  
  205. 2.  For the non-installable version of VirusScan for
  206.     DOS, take the following steps:
  207.  
  208.     a.  Make a directory on your hard disk drive.
  209.     b.  Copy the files to that directory.
  210.     c.  Add that directory to the path statement in
  211.         your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  212.                               
  213. If you would like to perform a "silent" installation
  214. of VirusScan for DOS, requiring no user interaction
  215. and using all default settings, add -s (i.e. SETUP.EXE -s)
  216. to the setup command when you install the product.

  234. * TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION *
  235.  
  236. The Eicar Standard AntiVirus Test File is a combined effort 
  237. by anti-virus vendors throughout the world to come up 
  238. with one standard by which customers can verify their 
  239. anti-virus installations.
  240.  
  241. To test your installation, copy the following line into its
  242. own file and name it EICAR.COM.
  243.  
  244. X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
  245.  
  246. When done, you will have a 69- or 70-byte file.
  247.  
  248. When VirusScan is applied to this file, SCAN will report 
  249. finding the EICAR-STANDARD-AV-TEST-FILE virus.
  250.  
  251. It is important to know that THIS IS NOT A VIRUS. However,
  252. users often have the need to test that their installations 
  253. function correctly. The anti-virus industry, through the 
  254. European Institute for Computer Antivirus Research, has 
  255. adopted this standard to facilitate this need.
  256.  
  257. Please delete the file when installation testing is 
  258. completed so unsuspecting users are not unnecessarily 
  259. alarmed.
  260.  
  261.  
  262. * UNINSTALLING THE PRODUCT * 
  263.  
  264. 1.  Execute VSHIELD/REMOVE to remove VShield from
  265.     memory, then remove the files from your hard
  266.     drive and remove any lines in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
  267.     file that call VShield. If an error message is
  268.     displayed indicating that VShield could not be
  269.     removed from memory, take the following step. 
  270.         
  271. 2.  Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and remove the line
  272.     that calls VShield, then reboot your system. On
  273.     restarting your system, VShield will not be loaded
  274.     into memory and you can remove the files from your
  275.     hard drive.
  276.  
  277.     Note: If the files are removed from your hard drive
  278.     prior to removing VShield from memory, an error
  279.     message will be displayed until you remove
  280.     VShield from memory or restart your system.
